Brno armchair-cantilever by L. Mies. van der Rohe 1930
The cantilever Brno is a part of the design the Villa Tugendhat.
In 1930 Ludwig Mies van der Rohe was commissioned to design the Villa of the Tugendhat couple in Brno, which is one of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's most important designs and a milestone in modern architecture. The “Villa Tugendhat” is one of the most important works of Mies van der Rohe and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
In addition to the architecture, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe took over the complete interior design. The famous original cantilever BRNO stands 24 times in the dining room of Villa Tugendhat.
This cantilever gives the feeling as if the seat and frame had no connection and the user floated in the air. It is made either with frame made of flat steel, or round steel tube.
Frame in chrome plated square spring steel. Upholstery on hardwood frame. Padding in high quality leather in standard-, soft- and aniline leather or Pony skin. Padded armrests. Connection between the frame and the seat is not visible
