Willow 1 - one of the most famous and unique works of the Bauhaus designer Ch.R.Mackintosh. In 1903, Mackintosh was commissioned to design a complete building with the famous Willow Tearooms on Argyle Street. It was halfway between two salons in the Willow Teahouse, separating the white anteroom from the darker room beyond. The checkered geometric pattern of the Willow chair with the curved backrest in the form of a stylized pasture gives the chair its special character. The Willow Chair was the "head office" of the head waiter, who took orders from the waitresses and relayed them in the form of colored balls - each color meaning a different menu - through a connecting pipe to the kitchen below the salon.
