RAR rocking chair was developed in the early 1950s for the "Low Cost Furniture Design" competition of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The chairs are part of Charles & Ray Eames' "Fiberglass Group". The seat shell is connected to the chromed steel feet via "shock mounts" and finally to wooden skids. These models were the first industrially manufactured plastic chairs in history. The organically shaped seat shell offers exceptional seating comfort, adapts to the body. The original shells were made in fiberglass, today ABS is used, it is dull and less sensitive to scratches.
