(* 21. Mai 1902 in Pécs, Ungarn; † 1. Juli 1981 in New York City)  was a German-American architect and designer of Hungarian-Jewish origin, who shaped the thinking of form, aesthetics and function in the 20th century. In 1920 he began to study art in Vienna, but soon moved to the Bauhaus in Weimar. His talent was quickly noticed, so that in 1921 he started work in the office of Bauhaus founder Walter Gropius. With the seizure of power of the Nazis, he finally emigrated via London to the United States and taught there at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. Despite his initial training as a carpenter, Marcel Breuer worked as an architect, who designed public buildings as well as private houses and industrial buildings.

The furniture designed by Marcel Breuers comes almost exclusively from the time at the Bauhaus. His chair B 3, known as the Wassily Chair, represents one of the most famous and important chairs of the 1920s. Other important works by Marcel Breuer are the Cesca cantilever chairs, but also the cantilevers B 55 and cantilever chair S 32 and the Laccio tables.
